1. The Monday, July 26, 2010, 2-3:30 PM PDT program welcomes back Brian Enke to the program.
As a Senior Space Research Analyst at the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colorado, Brian Enke researches Mars and asteroid science, artificial intelligence and robotics algorithms, and remote sensing technologies. Prior to 2001, he worked for 17 years as a senior integrator and complex-system problem solver at Bell Labs. Brian currently assists or advises several space advocacy groups including 4Frontiers, the MarsDrive Consortium, the National Space Society, and the Mars Society. In his part-time writing career, he has written and published /Shadows of Medusa/, a full-length mystery/science fiction novel about Mars exploration (http://www.ShadowsOfMedusa.com). His long-awaited sequel is currently in-progress. Brian also led the development of a series of Mars settlement short stories for the young-adult market featuring several distinguished science fiction authors (http://www.Crazy4Mars.com). He writes on-line articles analyzing the space industry for The Examiner (http://www.examiner.com/x-2558-Denver-Space-Industry-Examiner), and he delights in assisting other aspiring authors further their writing careers. 3. The Friday, July 30, 2010 9:30-11AM PDT Space Show welcomes back Ms. Theresa Hitchens from Geneva, Switzerland.
Theresa Hitchens is the current Director of UNIDIR (the United Nations Institute For Disarmament Research, www.unidir.org). Ms. Hitchens was previously the Director of the World Security Institute's Center for Defense Information. Editor of Defense News from 1998 to 2000, Hitchens has had a long career in journalism, with a focus on military, defense industry and NATO affairs. Her time at Defense News included five years as the newspaper's first Brussels bureau chief, from 1989 to 1993. From 1983 to 1988, she worked at Inside Washington Publishers on the group's environmental and defense-related newsletters, covering issues from nuclear waste to electronic warfare to military space. She has had a long interest in security policy and politics, having served internships with Sen. John Glenn, D-Ohio, and with the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Brussels. Most recently, she was director of research at the British American Security Information Council, a think tank based in Washington and London. Besides her duties as CDI director, Hitchens leads CDI’s Space Security Project. The author of “Future Security In Space: Charting a Cooperative Course,” she also continues to write on space and nuclear arms control issues for a number of outside publications. She serves on the editorial board of The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, and is a member of Women in International Security and the International Institute for Strategic Studies. 4. The Sunday, August 1, 2010 12-1:30 PM PDT Space Show welcomes Dr. Chris Impey to the program regarding his new book, "How It Ends: From You To The Universe." (Note that this book is available on the OGLF website at www.amazon.com/dp/0393069850?tag=onegialeafou-20. If you buy the book through Amazon and OGLF, Amazon makes a contribution to The Space Show).
Dr. Chris Impey is a University Distinguished Professor at the University of Arizona and head both the undergraduate and the graduate programs in astronomy. He has received numerous honors for his teaching, including a 2005 Galileo Circle Award and Carnegie Council's Arizona Professor of the Year, and he was a lecturer in Phi Beta Kappa's Visiting Scholar Program. Dr. Impey has written a variety of popular pieces on astronomy as well as a widely reviewed book, "The Living Cosmos. He lives in Tucson, Arizona.
